Purrfectly Fun: Nasty Cat Card Game for Families.

Nasty Cat

Cards Needed:

One Nasty Cat card, Cat Party action cards, and all Catitude pairs (remove five Nasty Cat cards from the deck). The game can also be played without the Cat Party action cards. For smaller hands, fewer players or a quicker game, reduce the number of Catitude pairs as desired.

Set-Up:

The dealer shuffles the cards and deals one to each player, face down, until the entire deck is dealt. Players do not need to have an equal number of cards.

How to Play:

Players discard any Catitude pairs from their hands.

The dealer offers their fanned out hand to the player on their left, who draws a card from it. The player discards any pair that may have been created by the drawn card, and then offers their own hand to the player on their left. Play continues to the left. If a player discards all their cards play continues with the remaining players.

Cat Party Action Cards:

  • If a player draws the Cat Party card from another player and already has a Cat Party card in their hand, they remove the pair and play continues.
  • If a player draws the Cat Party card from another player and doesn’t already hold a Cat Party card, the player places the Cat Party card in their hand, and then immediately draws a card from the player on their opposite side (reversing direction) and play continues in that direction.

How to Win:

Everyone not having the Nasty Cat card at the end of the game is a winner! The player who is left with the Nasty Cat card loses the game and starts the next game if one is played.

Go Hiss!

Cards Needed:

Two Nasty Cat cards and all Catitude pairs (remove four Nasty Cat cards and Cat Party action cards from the deck).

Set-Up:

The dealer shuffles the cards and deals five cards to each player, then places the remaining cards in a pile in the center of the table.

How to Play:

Players remove any Catitude pairs from their hands and place the pairs face up in front of them.

The player to the left of the dealer asks any opponent if they have a specific Catitude card, for example, “Do you have Keyboard Cat?” The player (“asker”) must have the Catitude card they’re asking for in their hand.

If the opponent has the Catitude card, they give it to the asker, who places the pair in front of them and takes another turn.

If the opponent doesn’t have it they “Hisssss” like a cat. The asker then draws a card from the top of the deck. If the drawn card matches the Catitude they asked for, they place the pair in front of them and their turn continues. If they don’t draw the card they asked for (even if they created a different Catitude pair), their turn ends and play continues to the left.

If a player is without cards during the game they may draw a card from the deck when it’s their turn, and ask any opponent for that Catitude card. If no cards are left in the deck, they are out of the game.

How to Win:

Play ends when all Catitude pairs have been matched. The player with the most Catitude pairs wins!

Slap Cat

Cards Needed:

Play with the entire deck.

Set-Up:

The dealer shuffles the cards and deals one to each player, face down, until the entire deck is dealt. Players do not need to have an equal number of cards. Players should not look at their cards or preview the top card.

Players should agree before the game how they will break a tie slapping the pile. Options are Rock, Paper, Scissors; Odds and Evens; Flipping a Coin; divide the pile; or another method agreed to in advance.

How to Play:

The player to the left of the dealer quickly flips the top card from their pile (away from themself so they don’t get a sneak peek) into the center of the table to start a pile. Play continues clockwise with each player quickly flipping their top card face up onto the pile.

When a Nasty Cat card is played, all players attempt to be the first to slap the pile of cards. The player who first slaps the Nasty Cat card lightly shuffles the cards they won and places the cards at the bottom of their pile of cards and restarts play.

If a player incorrectly slaps the pile when it is not a Nasty Cat card, they must pay a penalty card, facedown, to the player who played the card.

How to Win:

The player with all the cards at the end of the game is the winner.

Mewmory Game

Cards Needed:

Two Nasty Cat cards and all Catitude pairs (remove four Nasty Cat cards and Cat Party action cards from the deck).

Set-Up:

The dealer shuffles the cards and places them face down in rows and columns. For a simpler or shorter game, use fewer Catitude pairs.

How to Play:

The player to the left of the dealer turns over two cards, one card at a time, keeping them in place. If the cards make a Catitude pair the player picks up the pair and takes another turn until they don’t find a pair. If the cards don’t match they are turned face down and play continues to the left.

How to Win:

Once all the pairs have been matched, the player with the most Catitude pairs wins!
